Door locks

Security locks for your doors

There is an infinite number of different types of locks on the market. Sometimes you can install any model of lock on your doors, but other times only one type of lock with its specific dimensions and features will fit. This depends primarily on the door's mortise, its materials, its dimensions, and the level of security you are looking for. In addition, the door's installation location and the type of door will determine where to start looking. In other words, the locks you install on bedroom doors are not the same as those you would install on a bathroom door with a latch, or on aluminum windows, glass doors, or overhead doors.

Mortise locks

To begin with, the most commonly installed type of lock (naturally) is the mortise lock typical of wooden doors. These security locks are mortised into the center of the door's edge and can be a single-point (single-point lock) in the case of interior doors, or 3- and 5-point locks for exterior and entrance doors (in the case of locks for armored and security doors). When it comes to locks for wooden doors, your choice is very restricted because you need a product that fits the dimensions of the mortise already present in the door. This is why, when searching, you must pay close attention to: whether the latch bolt is the same as the lock you are going to buy, whether the lock edge is square or oval depending on what you already have, and that the backset and distance to the lock are the same. We always recommend being very clear about these last two measurements because if they are not the same as those of your door, the lock will not work for you.

Continuing with the line of mortise locks for wooden doors are the mortise locks for doors with aluminum or PVC metal profiles. These locks are found on garage doors, exterior iron doors, and metal doors. The general operation of these locks is exactly the same as locks for wood with two exceptions: they are somewhat narrower due to the depth of the aluminum profile, and the cam of the cylinder installed in these locks will always be short—that is, you will need a "short-cam cylinder." The rest of the operation is the same, and even the lock profile (cylinder) will most of the time be Euro-profile, or sometimes they may be bit locks. Likewise, we recommend that locks be installed with anti-bumping security cylinders at a minimum, although if possible, also anti-drill, anti-theft, anti-pick, and with a double clutch. Furthermore, the prices of the security locks we offer range from very cheap to the highest level of security and protection for your doors.

Finally, regarding mortise locks, whose characteristic is that they must adapt to the measurements the door already has, there are electric locks. A door with an electric lock allows the door to be unlocked from a button or intercom without the need to use a key. The electric lock is very commonly seen installed on a gate, hotel, or any public building, and the way to check its adaptability also depends on the measurements your doors have and, in this case, the type of electricity installed in them.

On the other hand, there are locks whose installation is optional, and depending on factors such as convenience or extra security, you may or may not install them on your doors.

Smart electric locks

This is the case with electronic locks, for example, which are locks that keep the door closed with a certain level of security, and the unlocking of the lock is carried out via fingerprint, facial recognition, Wi-Fi, biometrics, or NFC technology... These smart door locks have started to be seen more and more and installed on access doors to homes, offices, public buildings, and so on. There are different types of electric security locks for doors: from access controllers to digital handles, invisible security locks, and motorized cylinders. Right now, products like Nuki locks, Remock Lockey invisible locks that open with a remote, and many others have already started to be seen in a multitude of homes, and their sales have skyrocketed in recent years.

Deadbolts are also a type of security lock, in this case complementary to the essential security of the door. These offer an extra point of reinforcement to the door, and their exterior opening is carried out with a key, while the interior can be with a key, thumbturn, or button. To make the installation more practical, we always recommend trying to buy the deadbolt and the cylinder with the same key to increase the security of your home without decreasing convenience. It is worth noting that a deadbolt is a type of rim lock that is very easy to install and practical, which is why it is used as a solution for entrance doors, storage rooms, and garages. In addition, it could be considered one of the most effective anti-squat security locks.

The world of locks is a highly competitive sector where the number of brands and the confusion they sow when choosing which lock is ideal for your door makes it difficult. Recommended lock brands such as Salto, the extensive catalog of Tesa locks, the experience of Ezcurra, the quality of Lince, the technology of Remock Lockey with its hidden locks, and the disparate prices on the market make the choice difficult. Our advice is practical: always bet on security, but keep in mind that subtle differences in prices do not necessarily correspond to differences in quality or security. There are high-security locks at good prices and simple locks for wooden doors with exorbitant prices.

All door locks

Although the overview we have provided covers the most commonly installed locks today, there are a number of locks apart from those already mentioned that are also part of the security world. For example, cabinet locks, so widely used especially in antique furniture, mailbox and locker locks, security locks for vans and caravans, locks for fire doors, a lock for a rolling door, or even handles and knobs with an included lock are solutions that it is still common to see in operation and that continue to be used a lot as replacements. It is advisable to repair antique door locks and take care of their maintenance frequently to maintain a good level of security in your home. Every door must come with its lock, and here we will help you find the one you need.
